Jordan cuts non-revenue water by 10.7 percentage points since 2022
AMMAN — Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Al-Saoud on Monday announced that the sector has met the annual Non-Revenue Water (NRW) reduction target for the fourth consecutive year.
During a meeting at the ministry, in the presence of representatives of the US government and a number of officials, Abu Al-Saoud said that this accomplishment reflects a cumulative nationwide NRW reduction of 10.7 percentage points compared to 2022, the base year, bringing the national NRW level down to 41 per cent.
Exceeding the government’s annual target of 2 percentage points nationwide, this achievement marks a “significant” step towards Jordan’s broader goal of reducing NRW to 25 per cent by 2040, as outlined in the National Water Strategy, according to a ministry statement.
The minister said: “Achieving our Non-Revenue Water targets for the fourth consecutive year reflects Jordan’s unwavering commitment to a resilient, maintainable water sector. Every drop saved brings us closer to long-term water security.”
He added: “Meeting these benchmarks is more than a technical success. It’s the cornerstone that unlocks critical support for the National Conveyance Project. I thank every staff member across the water sector entities. Without their commitment and hard work, this achievement would not have been possible.”
“We are grateful for the continued support by the government of the United States and our international donors. Moving forward, sustaining this momentum through timely infrastructure investment and utility modernisation remains our highest priority,” Abu Al-Saoud said.
